Falcons defeat Astralis to advance to Esports World Cup playoffs

Falcons have successfully advanced to the playoffs of the Esports World Cup by defeating Astralis in a two-map series. The match saw Falcons take control on Ancient with a strong start, winning 13-7, before securing a more tightly contested victory over Astralis on Dust2, finishing 13-11.

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač played a key role in the victory, helping his team to a 6-1 lead on Ancient. Although Astralis managed to tie the score at halftime, with contributions from Gytis "ryu" Glušauskas and Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard, Falcons quickly regained their momentum. A crucial pistol win allowed them to maintain their lead, leading to only one lost round post-swap before closing out the map.

The second map, Dust2, was marked by chaotic play. An early force-buy by Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov shifted the game, resulting in a series of scrappy rounds where both teams exchanged control. Victor "Staehr" Staehr found some remarkable moments for Astralis, but it was ultimately Falcons who dominated the latter parts of the match after winning their third pistol round.

Falcons reached match point with a score of 12-6, but the game took a tense turn as Astralis, displaying resilience, clawed back from a 5v3 disadvantage. Despite their efforts, NiKo and m0NESY secured the final kills needed to seal the match at 13-11.

With this victory, Falcons will have a week to prepare for their playoff match starting on August 19, while Astralis will enter the lower bracket for another opportunity to reach the playoffs against the winner of BetBoom versus Ninjas in Pyjamas.
