Spirit defeat Luminosity 2-0 in Esports World Cup 2026

Spirit triumphed over Luminosity, securing their spot in the group stage lower bracket.

Spirit advanced in the Esports World Cup 2026 group stage lower bracket with a 2-0 victory against Luminosity. Despite a strong effort from Luminosity, who had opportunities to take the match to a deciding map, they finished at the bottom of the group after losses on both Ancient and Dust2.

The Russian team rebounded from an unexpected defeat to JiJieHao in their opening match. With this win, Spirit now progresses to face either BIG or G2 in the Group A lower-bracket semi-final on Saturday.

The first map, Ancient, was Luminosity's choice. However, Spirit dominated the match from the start, not allowing Luminosity to gain any traction. Danil "donk" Kryshkovets was instrumental in Spirit's performance, delivering several crucial clutches. The final score reflected Spirit's control, ending the map at 13-3 in their favor.

On Dust2, the dynamics shifted slightly as Luminosity claimed victory in the CT pistol round and took an early lead. Spirit quickly regrouped and equalized after four rounds, maintaining a tie that lasted until halftime. After the break, Spirit edged ahead once more, but Luminosity managed to fight back. In a critical moment, Luminosity attempted to capitalize on a weaker round for Spirit, but Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov's impressive triple-kill with the AWP kept Spirit in front.

Luminosity battled hard to stay alive, even reaching double overtime and holding two map points that could have forced a deciding match. Nonetheless, Spirit retained their composure in the crucial moments and ultimately succeeded in closing out Dust2, securing the series with a victory.
