Gizmy Aims for Major Qualification with 100 Thieves
Jack 'Gizmy' von Spreckelsen expresses determination to qualify for the EWC after joining 100 Thieves as IGL.
Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen has taken on the role of in-game leader for 100 Thieves, coming from the remaining member of the Monte roster that participated in the IEM Cologne Major. Following a competitive start to his tenure, Gizmy has set qualifying for the EWC as a primary goal for his team.
The early performance in the BLAST Bounty online matches was promising, where they narrowly missed victory against Spirit. However, with a VRS ranking of No. 39, the team lacks tier-one tournament invitations, placing additional emphasis on their EWC aspirations.
"I think the general target is to make the Major, probably the same with most teams at our level and above, the tier-two region," Gizmy remarked after his team progressed through a group in the EWC open qualifier.
The IGL noted the team's smooth execution in recent matches, securing back-to-back 2-0 wins. He acknowledged the relative ease against lower-tier opponents while preparing for more challenging matches ahead.
Gizmy reflected on his month with 100 Thieves, addressing the mixed outcomes from recent online results. While they managed a victory over Falcons, they faced defeats against NIP and Nuclear TigeRES, which he attributed to team chemistry still in development.
The IGL shared insights about team dynamics, noting that the players he leads, including renowned figures like rain and device, have adapted well to his playstyle. "They're playing to my style, for sure. Two coaches are super supportive, and we have a good connection already," he stated, highlighting their collaborative approach.
With three potential series scheduled for the next day, Gizmy stressed the importance of success in their upcoming matches. He explained, "I would only be happy with that," emphasizing that failure to qualify for the EWC would be disappointing.
Lastly, Gizmy mentioned the general goal to become a Major contender this season, with aspirations to participate in upcoming LAN events to improve their ranking. With a focus on incremental victories, he expressed optimism about the road ahead for his team.
