JT reflects on early success and team dynamics at Team Liquid
Johnny 'JT' Theodosiou discusses his start as IGL with Team Liquid and their recent victories.
Johnny "JT" Theodosiou has made a strong re-entry into competitive play as the in-game leader for Team Liquid, having recently led the team to victories against Vitality and G2, securing a spot at the BLAST Bounty LAN Finals. Reflecting on his early days back with Liquid, JT expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with fellow player Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and teaming up with veterans like NAF and malbsMd, along with newcomer Georgi "Jorko" Mitev.
In a recent interview, JT highlighted the team's structure, which he believes is well-balanced, featuring two robust lurkers, an aggressive player in EliGE, and an emerging AWPer in Jorko. He noted that teamwork has been impressive from the start, stating, "The team has been working really hard, so getting results early was really nice, it shows that things are paying off."
JT acknowledged the individual talent within the squad, noting his excitement about having strong players who are accustomed to success. He commented on the balance of firepower and tactical understanding, asserting that the team is building a solid foundation quickly. Despite the shorter history together, JT feels that the team has adapted well to his leadership style, which includes giving players like EliGE the autonomy they need to shine.
EliGE’s return to form has been a notable aspect of the team dynamics so far. JT remarked on their history playing together, saying, "Honestly, it feels like old times... It's been really easy to work with him again, and I'm very excited." He emphasized EliGE’s need for space and clear roles to maximize his mechanical skills, stating, "I'm always giving him that."
Looking ahead, Liquid faces Spirit in the upcoming quarter-final, a test JT is prepared for. He acknowledged Spirit’s strength but remained confident in his team’s ability to compete at a high level, mentioning their solid preparation.
On the coaching front, JT discussed the fresh perspectives brought by new coach flashie and analyst DeMars DeRover. He believes their input will enhance his decision-making as an IGL, bringing in new strategies that align well with the team's goals. Overall, JT’s early tenure with Team Liquid reflects a blend of excitement, hard work, and a strong belief in the potential of his roster as they progress through the season.
