MUTiRiS Discusses Challenges Faced by Rebuilding SAW Squad

SAW secured a playoff position in the Esports World Cup Qualifier, finishing second in Group 3 after a mixed performance that included a tight match against DENDELE and victories over EAC. This marks the team's first LAN event since their recent formation, featuring a roster built around players from their semi-final run at IEM Cologne 2024. However, the integration of new members has led to visible inconsistencies, as captain Christopher "MUTiRiS" Fernandes acknowledged the team needs time to gel.

"I think it’ll take about three or four months to really get to a good level," he stated in a post-match interview. MUTiRiS emphasized the challenge of mastering six maps and adapting to the different styles shaped by their varied experiences. He described the initial period as a process of getting to know each other again. "In four to six months, I think we’ll be at a level where we’ll be much better," he added.

Having recently returned to SAW after a brief and disappointing stint with BC.Game, MUTiRiS remains optimistic about their potential. He expressed confidence in his teammates, particularly highlighting story's tactical contributions. "Playing alongside story, someone who is constantly helping me tactically, and we're always talking about what we can do or different approaches we can take. Having someone like that on the team helps me a lot," he remarked.

Reflecting on their playoff journey thus far, MUTiRiS noted the importance of focusing on mistakes and the lessons each match offers. He remained realistic about their performance, acknowledging the need for continuous improvement. Despite not meeting their initial expectations in some games, he expressed a commitment to learning and developing with each challenge faced.

With their playoff stage ahead, MUTiRiS admitted that while the team's aspirations were lofty, the focus must remain on taking each match as it comes. He identified the pressure of tournament play as beneficial, providing opportunities for growth.

As for the chances of reaching the level of past successful SAW rosters, he expressed optimism about certain players, particularly ewjerkz and story. Yet, he noted adjustments remain for newer teammates like NOPEEj, who are still acclimating to high-stakes competition. "When you play against teams like these, you make a tiny mistake, and you lose a game. He’ll have to get used to that," MUTiRiS concluded.
