Liquid delivers upset against Vitality in BLAST Bounty S2 debut
Liquid's recent additions of JT and Jorko help the team secure a surprising 2-0 win over Vitality in their BLAST Bounty S2 opener.
Liquid made an astonishing start to their BLAST Bounty S2 campaign, achieving a 2-0 upset against Vitality, winning on Anubis 13-10 and Nuke 13-9. This victory marks a significant debut for new players Johnny "JT" Theodosiou and Georgi "Jorko" Mitev, who joined the team following a roster shakeup during the summer.
In a post-match interview, Jorko expressed his disbelief at the win, stating, "I'm still shocked, I can't believe it." The restructured Liquid lineup, which saw the departure of Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak and Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek, showcased a fresh dynamic that starkly contrasted with their recent performances.
On Anubis, Liquid’s effective tactics on the often challenging CT side allowed them to secure six rounds before the half, contributing to their eventual victory despite failing to clinch the pistol round. The team displayed aggressive teamwork, making crucial plays that led to their narrow win.
The subsequent map, Nuke, posed a more significant challenge for Liquid, but the players rose to the occasion. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski stood out with impressive multi-kills and clutch plays, posting a 2.01 rating and resembling his former top-tier self from 2024 under JT's previous leadership. In addition, JT led the score on Anubis with a 1.27 map rating, while Jorko shone as well, contributing a strong performance with a 1.24.
As for Vitality, the team's struggles during the Bounty series are no secret, with the star-studded roster failing to reach the finals in previous seasons. Their performance in this match raises concerns, as they were outclassed by a Liquid squad that entered the contest ranked No. 45 in the world. This loss adds to the mounting pressure on Vitality, particularly given their shaky form toward the end of the Spring season.
