Magisk Discusses Leadership Transition and Building Team Culture

Emil "Magisk" Reif, the Danish veteran and current in-game leader of BC.Game, shared his thoughts on adjusting to his new role and fostering a team culture that incorporates various playing styles. Since taking over leadership duties, he has guided the team through a promising start, including a championship win at Elisa Esports Breakout Series 1 and a playoff qualification for the Esports World Cup open qualifier in Paris.

In an interview with HLTV, Magisk highlighted the importance of establishing a unified team culture. He remarked that while they aim to bring aspects of leadership from renowned teams like Vitality and NAVI, the ultimate goal is to form an identifiable BC.Game culture. "Right now the focus is to implement the culture of me and TaZ, because we need to be comfortable, and then we can try to divert into getting everyone implemented into one culture," he stated.

Reflecting on the competition, Magisk noted the unique atmosphere of the tournament environment, emphasizing the fierce competition and passion among the teams. "This tournament gives a lot of teams an opportunity, also for going into the Major potentially. So even though it's basically one big LAN, there's so much on the line for every team, because this might be the difference between a good and a bad season," he explained.

Adjusting to a lower tier of play poses its own challenges for Magisk, who believes the skill levels between tiers are close, but teamwork and strategic execution are the critical differentiators. He mentioned that playing against teams at this level requires different approaches, as they need to adapt to greater aggression and different tactical nuances.

On his new role as in-game leader, Magisk expressed a desire for deeper influence on strategic decisions and team dynamics, noting that he has contemplated this position for years. He acknowledged that while there are significant expectations for his transition, it will take time to establish himself fully in this capacity.

"I think it would be unfair to expect myself to be one of the best in-game leaders in one month," he added. He also emphasized the need for clarity in communication within the team and the importance of adapting playstyles according to each player’s strengths, especially with the newer players from Mongolia, who have not previously played in international teams.
